Harmonic Drive: Gear Units (SHG Series)
These gearheads can be easily adapted to any OEM servo motor. Harmonic Drive® gear products offer zero-backlash with gear ratios from 30:1 to 160:1. Precision planetary gearing products are available with gear ratios from 3:1 to 45:1 with backlash maintained below 1 arc-min. High capacity output bearings are utilized for robust and accurate support of loads. Other benefits include flange and shaft output configurations, hollow shaft designs, and sizes ranging from 0.625 inches to over 10 inches in diameter.
Harmonic Drive® gearing utilizes a unique operating principle which is based upon the elastic mechanics of metals. The greatest benefits are the zero-backlash characteristics and the weight and space savings compared to other gears because our gear mechanism consists of only three basic parts. They are the: Wave Generator, Flexspline and Circular Spline.
This simple three element construction combined with the unique operating principle allows extremely high reduction ratio in a very compact and lightweight package. Neither the size nor weight of the gear vary with the reduction ratio. The high performance attributes of this gearing technology including zero backlash, high torque, compact size, excellent positional accuracy and repeatability are all a direct result of the unique operating principle.

Harmonic Drive® SHG series gearheads are improved, high torque version of the SHF series. All torque ratings and L10 life are all significantly improved compared to the SHF series gearhead of the same size.

The external dimensions, mass, torsional stiffness, moment stiffness, positional accuracy, repeatability, input moment of inertia, etc. are all the same as SHF series gearheads.
The SHG-2UH series is a compact hollow shaft gearhead which has zero backlash as well as exceptional accuracy and repeatability. The gearhead incorporates a Harmonic Drive® gear component into an integral housing. In addition to the hollow shaft, the gearhead also features a high capacity cross roller bearing and output flange to mount the load without the need for additional support bearings. A New lightweight version is now available which provides the same output torque with a mass averaging 20% lower than the standard series!
SHG-2SH/SHG-2SO/SHG-2UJ Series: Simplicity Gear Units
Our Simplicity Gear Units are Non-housed component gears combined with a precision cross roller output bearing. Simplicity Gear Units do not include the housing and output flange, which allows for even tighter integration into the customer’s housing or machine structure.
The SHG-2UH series is a compact hollow shaft gearhead which has zero backlash as well as exceptional accuracy and repeatability. Like all of our gear units, the gearhead incorporates a Harmonic Drive® gear component into an integral housing. In addition to the hollow shaft, the gearhead also features a high capacity cross roller bearing and output flange to mount the load without the need for additional support bearings. A lightweight version, SHG-2UH-LW is available if weight is a critical factor.

High torque simplicity gear unit with a hollow input shaft. It costs less than a full unit and features an incredibly flexible design. SHG-2SH are available in ten sizes with ratios 50:1 to 160:1 and peak torque ranging 23-3419 Nm.
